Military Participation in Government Data (MPG)
As a part of my dissertation research and with support from an NSF Dissertation Improvement Grant, I have collected original time-series cross-national data on the number and type of cabinet- and state council-level positions held by military officers from 1964-2008. The data includes dummy variables for specific government positions -- e.g., "The Minister of Interior is a military officer" -- as well as counts of the total number of positions held by military officers and counts of security and non-security positions held by military officers. The data also includes counts of the total number of positions for each category allowing for proportions that capture relative military participation in government.

Replication data for my 2017 Security Studies article can be found here. This dataset contains yearly counts of the number of active-duty military officers in a state's national cabinet or state council-equivalent for all countries from 1964-2008. Also included are the total number of positions in the governing body as well as "Military Government Share"--the proportion of the governing body that is active-duty military officers.
